Seasonal Advice
If you choose to show your fish this season, review the information on this site about showing goldfish. Showing goldfish entails risks and stresses for the fish. To minimize these, the fish should of course be vibrantly healthy to start with. They should be fasted for a minimum of 4 days (a week is better) prior to the show. And they should be acclimated to the type of container they will be exhibited in (bowls, 10 gallon tanks, whatever).
After the show, you need to take proper care of the fish as well. At the very least, the fish should be quarantined for several weeks. Some hobbyists will do a salt dip even, after the show, to try to address any external parasites that may have been acquired in the show environment. In general, a well run show should be a low risk activity for your fish (and the show chairman are always looking for volunteer help to ensure this is true! Consider volunteering ...). But prudent caution is always a wise course of action.
